RIYADH/GENEVA – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), has pledged US$39 million to the Eighth Replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund), reaffirming its long-standing commitment to global health and resilient health systems.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, on behalf of the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and by Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund. The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador H.E. Abdulmohsen Majed Bin Khothaila, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, along with senior representatives from both the Saudi Fund for Development and the Global Fund, highlighting the continued cooperation between the two institutions and the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing global health.
The multiyear contribution, covering the 2026-2028 period, will support lifesaving programs that prevent, treat and care for people affected by HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, while strengthening health systems and community-based services in more than 100 countries. With this pledge, Saudi Arabia’s cumulative contributions to the Global Fund now exceed US$200 million.
H.E. Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, said: “Through SFD, Saudi Arabia remains committed to advancing global health and combating the world’s deadliest infectious diseases. This contribution to the Global Fund helps ensure essential programs reach the communities that need them most, while strengthening health systems and supporting long-term, sustainable development worldwide.”
A partner of the Global Fund since its establishment in 2002, Saudi Arabia has played a consistent and strategic role in supporting global efforts to end infectious diseases and enhance health security.
Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund, welcomed the pledge and highlighted Saudi Arabia’s leadership. “Saudi Arabia has been a committed partner of the Global Fund since the very beginning, and this pledge of US$39 million underscores the Kingdom’s continued leadership in global health,” said Sands. “Saudi Arabia’s support helps protect lives, reinforce health systems and build greater resilience against future health threats – benefiting communities across regions and around the world.”
The Global Fund held its Eighth Replenishment Summit in November in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Summit was co-hosted by the governments of the Republic of South Africa and the United Kingdom on the margins of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Contributions from partners like Saudi Arabia are essential to sustaining momentum, translating commitments into impact, and ensuring that gains are inclusive, durable and locally driven.
