Aramco and Pasqal Deploy Saudi Arabia’s First Quantum Computer for Industrial Applications

Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies, has partnered with Pasqal, the global pioneer in neutral-atom quantum computing, to deploy Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer—and the Middle East’s first system dedicated specifically to industrial applications. The milestone marks a major step forward in strengthening the region’s technological capabilities and accelerating the development of quantum solutions for energy and advanced materials.

Installed at Aramco’s data center in Dhahran, the new system is powered by Pasqal’s neutral-atom technology, enabling the control of 200 qubits arranged in programmable two-dimensional arrays. This configuration provides a platform capable of exploring sophisticated quantum algorithms tailored to real-world industrial use cases.

A Strategic Leap Toward Next-Generation Computing

The deployment supports Aramco’s broader strategy to harness advanced digital technologies—including AI, high-performance computing, and now quantum—to enhance operational efficiency, drive innovation, and create long-term value across its operations.

Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter, Aramco’s Executive Vice President of Technology & Innovation, said:
“Aramco is an established technology leader, which continues to innovate through the development and deployment of advanced digital solutions that have tangible benefits. Our partnership with Pasqal is a natural progression and we are thrilled to pioneer next-generation quantum capabilities, harnessing significant opportunities presented by this new frontier in computing.”

For Pasqal, the installation underscores its growing presence in the region and its commitment to delivering practical quantum solutions to industry.

Loïc Henriet, Pasqal CEO, stated:
“This is a historic milestone with Aramco. The deployment of our most powerful quantum computer yet is a piece of history and a landmark for the Middle East’s quantum future.”

Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Emerging Quantum Ecosystem

The partnership builds on Pasqal’s earlier engagement in the Kingdom, following a strategic investment from Wa’ed Ventures, Aramco’s venture capital arm, in January 2023. This investment has supported Pasqal in scaling its technologies and establishing a local presence in Saudi Arabia.

As part of the collaboration, Pasqal will provide training programs and joint research opportunities for Saudi engineers and scientists, contributing to the growth of the Kingdom’s quantum talent pipeline and reinforcing its ambitions to become a regional hub for high-tech innovation.

The deployment represents a foundational step toward building a robust quantum ecosystem in Saudi Arabia—one with significant potential to impact energy optimization, materials science, industrial manufacturing, and advanced computing research.
