Chile, 15 January 2021 – President Sebastián Piñera opened the “Choose Chile, A partner for a sustainable future” seminar organized by the Economy Ministry and InvestChile, bringing focus on Infrastructure, clean energy, sustainable investment and new technologies.
The clean and renewable energies sector investment has been forecasted to reach $28,000 million and achieve 70% of energy matrix. The investment in infrastructure including highways, roads, ports, airports and railways is envisaged to be close to $50,000 million.
Economy Minister Lucas Palacios, mentioned the technology sector as an important sector that is going to shape the economy of the future. “During the next five years, we will receive investments for over US$4,500 million by world-class technology companies,” he said.
Categorizing foreign investment as a key element in the economic recovery post-pandemic, especially in the context of job creation, the director of InvestChile, Andrés Rodríguez mentioned the importance of both public and private ecosystems to support the initiative, with InvestChile as a potent vehicle to execute that vision.
Former President Ricardo Lagos participated in this important platform to attract foreign investment to Chile and highlighted the certainties the country provides. “We are going to reactivate the economy, but responsibly, and we are in a position to do so and continue to be a country that has a known risk for all,” he said. He noted how Chile has changed course towards a green economy and its important work on climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gases, assuring that “we will be in the very first place in Latin America”.
